However, several nutrients are either absent from or poorly absorbed from plant foods, creating specific supplementation needs that vegan athletes must address. Creatine: The Most Important Vegan Performance Supplement
Dietary creatine is found almost exclusively in meat and fish. Vegans have significantly lower muscle creatine stores than omnivores at baseline - an average of 10-20% lower phosphocreatine content. This means vegan athletes have more to gain from creatine supplementation than their omnivorous counterparts. Vitamin B12
B12 is found almost exclusively in animal products. Deficiency is essentially universal in long-term vegans who don't supplement.
