Recovery is where adaptation happens. Training creates the stimulus; recovery creates the adaptation. Yet recovery supplementation is often neglected in favour of more pre-workout products. This guide covers the evidence-based recovery stack addressing the three key recovery mechanisms: sleep quality, connective tissue repair, and inflammation management.

Sleep: The Non-Negotiable Foundation

Growth hormone is predominantly secreted during slow-wave sleep. Muscle protein synthesis peaks overnight. Neural recovery, memory consolidation, and cortisol regulation all depend on adequate deep sleep. A single night of poor sleep reduces strength by 10 - 12% and significantly impairs cognitive function - yet most athletes underinvest in sleep quality.

Magnesium glycinate (200 - 400mg, 30 - 60 min before bed): Supports GABAergic inhibition (promoting relaxation), reduces evening cortisol, and improves sleep quality in multiple RCTs. The glycinate form is specifically well-tolerated and highly bioavailable.
